At the start of the summer Charles (~jackbarnak) and I started working on a project together. We thought that it would be fun to put our ideas together and create some T-Shirt designs. This idea turned into MR. KING SQUID, our very own online T-Shirt shop.
The loveable shop mascot, Mr. King Squid, was a character that I doodled back in high school. The character stuck with me and I found him popping up all over the place (especially in my class notes). Since Mr. King Squid looks a bit more like a jellyfish than a giant squid, I was surprised when Charles suggested that we open our shop by the same name. A small revamp of his design and he became the shop mascot.
As a team, Charles and I have been able to create and manage the online shop, website, blog, twitter, Facebook page, and most importantly the T-Shirt designs.
Just shortly after launching MR. KING SQUID, we were approached by Rise & Co. (an indie T-Shirt company in Arizona) to work on a collaborative design. The group loved our designs and their main art director was apparently a real "Japanese pop culture nut" (which sparked his interest in the collab).
Charles and I were thrilled by this opportunity and talk about potential designs began almost instantly. The group has been a real pleasure to work with and we're all excited to see the end result.
I'm so happy with everything that has happened so far. The entire process has been a lot of hard work, but I'm sure the fun has only just begun!
